One of the most magical components of the Unicorn Universe that makes what we do achievable is our collection of Solutions Partners!  So we’re excited to highlight a different one each month here on our blog.

 

This month we’d like to introduce you to Transworld Business Advisors.  Transworld has been in business for over 40 years and has offices literally all over the world!

 

As business advisors, Transworld specializes in basically four separate areas which by no accident correlate harmoniously with each other.  Helping people with:

 

  • Buying businesses
  • Selling businesses
  • Mergers and acquisitions
  • Franchises

 

If you’re in business, you should be building your business to sell, whether you have definite plans to sell, a timeline, etc., or not.

 

As you build your company, doing so with the overarching backdrop of not only making it efficient and profitable, but attractive to a buyer at some point in the future, is obviously the way to go.

 

Keeping an exit strategy or multiples, (plan A, plan B, etc.) in mind is also a smart facet of business building.

 

But even having done all of the above and more, if and when it comes time to even consider selling your business, how will you go about doing it?  

 

It’s not like you just put a “For Sale” sign in the window and have a reasonable expectation of attracting a qualified buyer, now is it?

 

As in most things, it pays to hire an expert.  And the higher the stakes, the more this holds true.

 

We love the DIY’er.  Heck, how else would anyone ever decide to even try entrepreneurship if they didn’t have the gumption to literally do something themselves?  But just because you Can, that doesn’t always mean it’s the best option where others are more qualified, more experienced, and can save, (or make) you significant money!

 

Unless you run a Marketing firm, marketing even for your own business is best left to an actual marketing company.  Imagine trying to market your business itself for sale! 

 

This could be likened to selling your home.  Sure, you can list FSBO, or worse, accept one of those “All Cash As Is” offers you get in the mail before you’d even considered selling, but as an individual homeowner versus a seasoned realtor, will you have all of the tools at your disposal to ensure maximum favorable exposure to eligible buyers in the market for a home like yours?  Even if you could hire a professional photographer specializing in real estate to create a walk-through video tour of your entire property and include drone footage, what would it cost you and where would you post it and how much of your time would all of that take? And that’s just one little aspect of the whole “selling a home enchilada”, as it were.  Think of trying to vet each potential buyer/offer on your own! It’s kind of like any risk/reward scenario- but again, the higher the stakes, the greater the worth of thoughtfully weighing your options.  

 

Buying or selling a business might feel like a pretty daunting task when it’s not something you’re experienced with.  

 

Buying a business doesn’t necessarily mean that you must come to the bargaining table with a pile of your own cash either.  Do you know how to structure such a deal?

 

Even if you’ve built and sold one business, surely there are elements that an expert would be aware of that you at least hadn’t thought of or even forgot about.



And when selling, having an advisor to evaluate your business and point out specific steps that, when taken, will significantly increase the market value of your business, is surely worthwhile.

 

Perhaps your next phase of growth could look like merging with another company.
